Porcelain veneers may be appropriate for a number of dental conditions. You should consider talking to Dr. Ekstein about dental veneers if:
Your teeth are stained or discolored teeth
Your teeth are crooked or misshaped teeth
Your teeth have spaces between them
Your teeth are broken or chipped
What are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin custom made shells that cover the front surface of your tooth to improve their appearance. They are made of tooth colored materials such as porcelain or zirconia and can be used to improve the color of teeth that have been worn down or stained. Alternatively, they can be used to improve the shape or size of the tooth.
Types of Veneers: Porcelain or Zirconia vs. Resin
There are two types of veneers that are commonly used. Porcelain and Zirconia veneers are more durable and resist stains better, but most importantly they look best. The properties of these materials also helps to create a very natural looking tooth. While less expensive than porcelain veneers, composite resin veneers are not lab made but instead are directly applied to the teeth. Porcelain will last longer.
How does the dental veneer process work at Smile Design Specialist?
Two visits to see Dr. Ekstein are typically required for porcelain veneers. At the first visit, three important steps are completed.
VISIT 1: First, your teeth will be prepared to be fitted with a veneer, which will involve trimming a portion of the tooth so the veneer can be bonded on top. Second, an impression is taken of your tooth or teeth and then sent to a laboratory to prepare the veneer. Third, you will receive a temporary veneer. This temporary veneer will provide you with an idea of what your final veneer will look like while the permanent veneer is prepared at the laboratory.
VISIT 2: The temporary veneer(s) will be removed. Then, the new veneers received from the laboratory will be checked for proper fit and form. Once you and Dr. Ekstein are completely satisfied with the look and feel of the veneer it will be bonded to your tooth, giving you the smile of your dreams!
